River Region Medical Center 2100 Highway 61 North Vicksburg, MS 39183 (601) 883-5000 The new River Region Medical Center, located at 2100 Highway 61 North in Vicksburg, is the largest single hospital project ever constructed in the State of Mississippi. The facility opened for patient care on February 17, 2002. The hospital has nine surgery suites with one especially equipped for open-heart procedures. The facility also contains three cardiac catherization labs and three GI (gastrointestinal procedure) suites. Patients also have access to outpatient surgery facilities, which enjoy the full backup of hospital inpatient technology and skilled personnel. The hospital features a state-of-the-art emergency facility including 27 beds and treatment rooms for trauma, cardiac episodes, and a “fast track” area for treating patients with less-severe emergencies. Both waiting areas were designed for optimal access for patients, physicians and visitors. The Emergency Room also features a dedicated CT Scanner capable of performing full body scans in as little as 30 seconds, enabling physicians to quickly assess internal injuries and illnesses. A 16-bed ICU features all new monitoring equipment and full telemetry capability, allowing nurses to continuously monitor patients. A new 14-bed CVICU was completed in 2004. A neonatal intensive care unit (Level II NICU) is available for newborns needing intensive care. An obstetrics/gynecology clinic is located in the hospital. The Women’s and Children’s Unit is uniquely designed for comfort of both expectant mothers and families. The 8-bed unit features rooms with wood grain floors and wooden cabinetry. In addition to the 5-bassinet NICU capabilities, the unit also has 20 well-baby bassinets. The facility also has 2 C-Section rooms. Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) rooms feature specially designed beds, which allow labor, birthing and recovery to take place in the same room. After the recovery process, patients are moved to a nearby Post Partum Unit (12 rooms.) Retirement Living In Vicksburg, the traditional concept of Nursing Home and Retirement living has been replaced by beautiful facilities and attentive, personalized care. Several nursing homes offer services ranging from full care to independent apartment living. Home Health Agencies Vicksburg offers numerous home health agencies. Home care is one of the fastest growing segments of the American health care system. Home care is a service to recovering, disabled, or chronically ill persons who need medical treatment and/or assistance with the activities of daily living. Generally, it is appropriate when a person requires care that cannot easily or effectively be provided solely by family and friends. The Hospice concept is one that envelopes both family and patient – mentally, physically and spiritually. The goal of Hospice is to improve the quality of life for people who are no longer able to benefit from curative treatment. The team approach is something very unique to Hospice and one that offers benefits not possible in a traditional home health care setting. Volunteers also make it special. In older days, “Hospice” was a place of comfort and rest for weary travelers on a journey. Today, Hospice offers comfort to people as they near the end of life’s journey. This concept has been redefined. Through palliative care, family support, and education, the patient can live in dignity and comfort.
