Vicksburg Students Earn Honor

Congratulations to the Vicksburg High School students who were recognized as Mississippi Scholars.

Five Vicksburg High School students were recently recognized as Mississippi Scholars. The students are Brittany King, Alyce Williams, Allison East, Edward Cortez Adams and Callie Gray.

Mississippi joined the State Scholars Initiative in 2003. Since then, more than 11,000 Mississippi High School students have graduated with the Mississippi Scholars distinction.

The State Scholars Initiative is a national program, operating across the country. It utilizes business leaders to motivate students to complete a more challenging course of study in high school.

The Scholars course of study gives students the foundation they need to succeed in a technical school, community college, university, the military or industry.

Mississippi Scholars serves as an opportunity for the business community to motivate students to choose a rigorous course of study in high school to develop a solid foundation for their futures.

Mississippi Scholars is designed to give students more opportunities as they pursue post-secondary education or career goals.

Sixty-four school districts in our state -- including 114 high schools -- have adopted the Mississippi Scholars program.
